5 Reasons It's Not Doomsday in New "Batman v. Superman" Trailer

Here's why Doomsday isn't in Batman V Superman. It's Bizarro. Yesterday, the second trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was released on Jimmy Kimmel Live. It's big, bold and surprising. It also happens to include a major spoiler in a big muscular creature with gray skin and spikes. Everyone is saying that it's Doomsday, but they're wrong.

For months, there have been rumors that the major villain in Batman V Superman would be Doomsday. Bleeding Cool said they saw concept art of Doomsday. Producer David Alter tweeted that he was "talking to some people" about Doomsday in Batman v Superman.

In the comics, Doomsday is a baby that was left to die on the hostile planet of Krypton and repeatedly cloned until he became an unstoppable killing machine. He killed Superman in the mid-1990s and was recently rebooted in the New 52 universe.

He's pretty awesome and is one of Superman's greatest villains, but he's not going to be in Batman V Superman. It's going to be Bizarro. Here are some good reasons why.

Doomsday's Origin Doesn't Match

According to comic book history, Doomsday was created by a mad scientist. He took a baby and put it on the primordial wasteland of Krypton to be killed by the hostile elements. When it died, he gathered the remains, cloned the body and put it back onto the planet. He repeatedly did this till the creature became unstoppable. Kind of like a forced version of "evolution". Silly, but that's comic books for you.

When they realized the creature couldn't be controlled they locked it in prison, but it escaped and headed to Earth. Doomsday beat Superman to death.

None of this matches anything we've seen in the trailers so far. So his origin is nothing like this. But it does match another Superman villain.

Bizarro's Origin Matches Perfectly

Zod (Michael Shannon) - "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016). Warner Bros

In the comics, Superman has a villain that's an evil duplicate of him. He has all Superman's powers but is twisted. While Bizarro's original origin had him created by Lex Luthor when he was experimenting with a "duplicating ray". Several comics have changed that. There's even a story that said General Zod cloned himself to make duplicates.

In Superman: Red Son and John Byrne's Man of Steel Lex Luthor clones Superman. The result is a twisted and monstrous duplicate of Superman. Sound familiar?

From what we've seen in the trailers, Lex Luthor has the body of the evil Kryptonian Zod. It's supplied by the government. Why? The rumored reason is that he wants to create a clone of Superman. So what do you think happens? That's right. He creates an evil clone of Superman that runs amuck.

So, it fits perfectly in the story and is a much closer origin to Bizarro.

Powers Match Bizarro

In the trailer, the creature is big, powerful and has spikes. But, it also has laser vision.

Doomsday never had laser vision. He's only big and strong. But Bizarro has all the powers of Superman. He has laser vision and it's telling that the blasts look a lot like the kind Zod used in Man of Steel.

Also, there are scenes of him jumping really far and high. This is a lot like what Superman did when he first got his powers in Man of Steel. It's possible that he'll fly in the movie. Doomsday never flies.

So, if you ignore the spikes, then it's got to be Bizarro.

DC Wouldn't Waste Doomsday

There's only one way this story could end and that's with the death of the villain and DC isn't stupid.

DC is planning a ton of DC universe films and is already making plans for tons of sequels. Would they really waste a prime villain on the second movie in the franchise?

It's too early to do the "Death of Superman" storyline. Without that Doomsday is useless. He's not a compelling villain and his only purpose is to kill Superman. But they could do it later and it would be awesome. Maybe even make it a two part movie.

So, there's no way DC would use Doomsday in this movie. It's Bizarro.

VFX Artist Says No Doomsday

Doomsday

When Batman v Superman wrapped in December they started work on the visual effects. Moving Picture Company is the company doing most of the FX for the movie. One of the artists working on the 3D Creature and Model FX is Sean Ray.  On his Instagram account, he posted how great it was to work on.

When one of the commenters asked if he worked on Doomsday he said,

“Hahaha lol unfortunately he’s not in the film, maybe in the man of steel squel [sic] or justice league film who knows."

After the post went viral he deleted his Instagram account. That means he must have touched a nerve at Warner Bros. Clearly he knew what he was talking about.

So, if you look at the origin, powers, artist testimony and DC's future movie plans you know that creature is Bizarro.

So, don't let the spikes fool you. He's definitely not Doomsday.

UPDATE: Recently, some blogs claimed the production designer Patrick Tatopoulus confirmed it's Doomsday in French Premiere magazine. That claim has since been debunked as a hoax.

UPDATE 2: Zack Snyder confirmed that the creature is Doomsday, so we just have to assume he's a mashup of Bizarro and Doomsday.
